For decades, the choice between tall oil and gum-based rosin esters has been a key decision when selecting bio-based tackifiers for various applications. Tall oil rosin and gum rosin come from completely different processes. As such, these materials have different chemical properties even though they appear to be quite similar. It’s only after you examine the differences in their isomer content and chemical processing history that you come to appreciate how they are different. Below are just a couple of high-level differences between these materials:
- Gum Rosin Esters (GRE) are often categorized as having lighter color, lower or more pleasant odor characteristics, ability to be hydrogenated, better suited for applications where aesthetics, food contact, or high-end properties matter most
- Tall Oil Rosin Esters (TORE) deliver strong economics to a formulation, generally have good and reliable supply, and excellent performance in pressure-sensitive adhesives, construction applications, and cost-sensitive formulations.
The most effective formulators test both, run the numbers on cost versus performance, and select what best fits their specific needs and margins. Yet managing multiple suppliers for different rosin types creates unnecessary complexity.
At Teckrez, we simplify your supply chain by offering a comprehensive range of both TORE and GRE under one roof. Whether you need one type or both, we’ve got you covered so you can focus on formulation, not sourcing headaches.
One supplier. Both options. Smarter formulating. Simplified supply chain.
Teckros T Series resins are the tall oil rosin resins, and the Teckros R Series are the gum rosin-based resins.
