Jacksonville, Florida – Teckrez has been made aware of new requirements by steamship lines for materials classified as Dangerous Goods (DG) affecting UN numbers with Special Provision SP386 or the term “stabilized” against polymerization as part of the Proper Shipping Name (PSN). At a minimum, it appears shipping companies will require the completion of special forms or letters on producer letterhead before allowing cargo in this category to be loaded for transport. It is likely this developing requirement will lead to additional delays in the supply chain for affected products (including most monomers). This bulletin from Hapag-Lloyd provides insights on the topic from the shipper’s perspective: There’s an update for Dangerous Goods (DG) – Polymerizing Substances chemically stabilized (revised) – Hapag-Lloyd
