Stearyl Acrylate – Long-Chain Alkyl Acrylate Monomer for Hydrophobic Polymers
Stearyl Acrylate (also known as Octadecyl Acrylate or C18 Acrylate) is a specialty long-chain alkyl acrylate monomer derived from stearyl alcohol. Its hydrophobic C18 alkyl group provides polymers with excellent water repellency, flexibility, and weather resistance, making it highly valuable in advanced polymer formulations.
This unique acrylate monomer is widely used in coatings, adhesives, textiles, sealants, and specialty plastics, where it improves slip properties, moisture resistance, and low-temperature performance. Stearyl Acrylate also enhances surface smoothness, lubrication, and processability, making it suitable for both industrial and consumer applications.
In addition, Stearyl Acrylate is often copolymerized with other acrylates or methacrylates to fine-tune properties such as flexibility, toughness, and chemical resistance. Its long hydrophobic chain makes it particularly effective in outdoor coatings, water-resistant adhesives, and textile treatments, where long-term durability is essential.
With its combination of hydrophobicity, flexibility, and performance-enhancing properties, Stearyl Acrylate (C18 Acrylate) is a key raw material for the production of high-performance coatings, adhesives, and specialty polymers.
