Striping Season is Upon Us!

Apr 10, 2025

It’s that time of year again when the temperatures start to rise, the days get longer, and the road stripers begin their season. Every day, millions of drivers in the United States use roads that are striped using Teckrez Rosin Ester Resins. Our resins improve the traffic striping formulations in several ways that ensure roadways are clearly marked and visible in all sorts of weather conditions. Here are three ways they are utilized:

  1. Improvement of Adhesion and Durability: Maleic modified rosin ester resins enhance the adhesion of road marking paints to various substrates, such as asphalt and concrete. This ensures that the markings remain firmly attached to the road surface despite traffic wear and weather conditions, thereby increasing the durability and lifespan of the road markings.
  2. Enhancement of Color and Reflectivity: These resins contribute to the brightness and clarity of road markings. They help in enhancing the retro-reflectivity of the markings, which is critical for visibility, especially during night-time or adverse weather conditions. The Maleic modified rosin resins provide additional chemical adhesion to the glass microspheres that are used for light reflection, which is not something a traditional hydrocarbon resin can do very well.  This improves overall road safety by ensuring that road markings are easily visible to drivers.
  3. Modification of Film Formation and Drying Time: Maleic modified rosin ester resins influence the film formation properties of road marking paints. They enable the paint to form a uniform, smooth film that dries quickly, reducing the time the road needs to be closed for painting. This property is particularly important for minimizing traffic disruptions and allowing rapid reopenings of roadways after marking operations.

Teckros Maleic modified rosin resins, known as the M Series Resins, are important components in road marking formulations.  Reach out today to find out how Teckrez can help you make your mark in the traffic striping industry. Please visit our website at this link to find out more.
